Please Meet Svetlana and Michael.
If you want to showcase your innovative product to 300.000 people a day, you need to get to know the following two first: Michael Willumat and Svetlana Naperstak from DB are looking for new trends and possibilities for train stations in the future. Currently they are looking for cooperations with startups to get new inspiring ideas and business cases.
Tell us about your project Next Station!
In order to expand the existing offers of the stations, DB needs new impulses from the outside, especially from young and dynamic startups. The needs of customers and travellers are changing, that is why we would like to offer more exciting and varied products. On April 16th 2015 selected startups will gain the opportunity to present their concept at the pitch event Next Station.
Who is eligible to apply for the pitch event Next Station on April 16th?
Whether multi-channel-retailers, new shopping experiences, food delivery services, or innovative ideas, until March 22nd startups have the chance to submit their applications. Every idea concerning innovative products or services for shopping or retail is welcome, as long as it can be implemented in a stationary store, assuming the business model is scalable and the company was already founded.
What does a train station make the perfect environment for Pop-Ups?
With over 1 million square meters of rental space at 5,400 stations and 17 million customer contacts per day DB is the perfect partner for implementing new shopping concepts successfully.
Looking at the big picture, what is the idea behind all this?
While shopping online becomes increasingly popular, many e-commerce companies tend to open mortar shops. At the same time, more and more technologies are included in the shopping experience at the point of sale. Pickup stations, Pop-up stores, beacon technology – what will the future of shopping look like? That is what we are searching for. Together we would like to develop new products and services in order to react to the diversified needs of travellers. With our headquarters in the startup hub Berlin, we want to offer young founders the chance to test their products and develop a joint business model. Through partnerships with startups we aim to develop new revenue streams in the medium term and use these innovations for a sustainable product portfolio and further customer services.
If you could pop-up at any train station with any product — what would it be?
Michael: I like the idea of a multichannel wine shop, where you can taste wines which can be sent home by same-day-delivery. I would like the offline consultation from the store but the convenient delivery of an online merchant.
Svetlana: I don’t like waiting time. Either if it’s at the public authorities, the doctor’s waiting room or the train station – anything that is combining and optimizing waiting time is great. I would love to have a store with e-governance and medical services or other solutions for annoying duties while I am waiting for my train.
